We have been very fortunate to have had the services of Áine Dunne , a weaving expert, for the last couple of weeks. The infants thoroughly enjoyed seeing the spinning wheel and learning all about spinning and weaving. They also managed to do some weaving with paper and with different wools and ribbons. A great time was had by all.
Anyone witnessing the infant classroom recently could not fail to have noticed that it is that time of year again ! The place has been full of paste, paper, sticky fingers and excited children. It is papier mache piggy bank time ! The children have had great fun with lots of mess and gooey hands. At last the wonderful creations are finished and they have gone home clutching their works of art. If anyone wishes to view the pigs they are in the ‘Gallery’.
We have been learning about weaving. The visiting teacher is Áine Dunne and each week she shows us a new skill. On the first week we were learning about spinning and she showed us how her spinning wheel works. We learned how to do finger weaving. Next we were shown all about the warp and the weft and we practised doing paper weaving. Our next project is weaving with yarn.We look forward to our classes each week.
For the past few weeks all the children in the school have been enjoying the opportunity to partake in the weaving workshops. We are very lucky to have Áine Dunne with us as she teaches us a variety of weaving methods and skills. There was great interest in her spinning wheel as the younger children looked for the needle that pricked Sleeping Beauty’s finger! Parents can look forward to seeing the results of the classes in the near future.
Before Christmas the senior pupils participated in an exercise programme at the Boyne Valley Hotel and Country Club. The programme went on for a period of 6 weeks and the children had the opportunity to use the club’s facilities. Some of the activities that were arranged were swimming, aerobics, football, gym exercises, boxing and talks on healthy eating and good lifestyle choices. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the programme and we hope that this “Adopt a School Programme” is available again next year.
Thank you to all at the Boyne Valley Country Club for making the programme a success.
The PTA organised a successful Easter Fun Quiz which was held in St. Peter’s Church Hall. Many of our school families and their friends participated in the quiz and it turned out to be a very enjoyable day.
St. Peter’s N.S. Chess Team has won the Annual Drogheda Primary Schools Chess League 2008. The official presentation will take place in the Boyne Valley Hotel later this month.
Andrew Thompson has done great work with the Chess Club members again this year and the school chess awards will be presented at the End of Year Service in June.
Well Done to all our Chess Players.
