The pupils in 5th & 6th class, having been moved by the news reports from Haiti in recent days, decided that they would do their part to help the unfortunate victims of the terrible earthquake in Haiti. On Jan. 28th the senior pupils organised a very successful Bake Sale and Raffle to raise funds for this worthy cause.
On that day the children invited all of the pupils, staff and parents to their classroom where they had organised stalls selling all sorts of delicious cakes and buns.
The highlight of the day was a raffle for a beautiful Gingerbread House created by Mrs. Toye. The lucky winner was little Julia Shepherd from Bettystown.
The 5th & 6th class children would like to thank everyone who made the day such a success. They are especially grateful to all those who baked cakes and buns for the sale and of course all of the generous customers.
Overall a total of €846.15 was raised.

Congratulations and well done to everyone involved.

Pupils from 5th & 6th Class view the paintings of artists Nano Reid and Gerard Dillon

Mrs Hilary Kelly welcomed the senior class in our school to the Highlanes Gallery in January. We were invited to the gallery to see a special exhibition of the paintings of renowned local artist Nano Reid and her friend Gerard Dillon. Many of Nano Reid’s paintings are inspired by the environment around Drogheda. We can see scenes from Mellifont, Monasterboice and other places in the Boyne valley. Nano also liked to paint scenes from the town of Drogheda.
Gerard Dillon was from the north of Ireland and many of his paintings show scenes from Connemara in Galway.
Mrs Kelly talked to us about the paintings on display and she also explained their styles and influences. Before we returned to school we had an opportunity to do some artwork of our own.

During this school year St. Peter’s has continued to work with our partner school in Lapua, Finland. The pupils in Poutun koulu participated in a “Healthy Lifestyles” project with the children in our school. The areas of diet, exercise and games were looked at by all of the children during the year and some project work was completed and exchanged.
Our school also produced a DVD of the highlights of our school year 2007/08 and this was sent to Lapua.
We look forward to continued co-operation in 2008/09 when we plan to get the PTAs of both schools involved.

Another fantastic day of skipping took place in the school last week when skipping expert, Lee James, travelled from the UK to carry out a series of skipping workshops with the pupils. All of the classes participated on a day when we were blessed with fine weather. Lee demonstrated a whole range of skipping techniques and before long many of the children had learned the moves. At the end of the day Lee selected a number of pupils who had impressed him with their skipping prowess and everyone was treated to a Skipping Exhibition.
